Synopsis of The Last 48

Lee met Suzanne on an unplanned blind date on Halloween in 1974 when they were seniors in High School. They dated through high school and college.  In Easter of 1978, they both gave their lives to Jesus Christ. Two years later, they were married in 1980 and put Jesus in their center of their marriage. Three weeks later, Lee entered service in the US Air Force which moved them around the country. Their faith in Jesus gave them a foundation for their love for each other to grow. After a career in the Air Force and defense companies, Lee and Suzanne moved to Charleston, SC in 2014 with plans to retire.

Despite being healthy her entire life, and in excellent physical condition.  In the December of 2022, Suzanne contracted pneumonia. The doctors knew how to treat her and admitted her to the hospital for evaluation and treatment.  Four days later, on a Sunday morning, the doctor told Lee and Suzanne in addition to the pneumonia, she had stage 4 lung cancer that was untreatable.  It was a rare cancer that attacks healthy people. Because she was in excellent physical condition, they estimated she had one to months to live.  The next 48 hours were filled with heartbreak and triumph as Jesus sustained them. During this time, Suzanne touched the lives of the doctors, nurses and friends inspiring them. She made the jump to heaven on Tuesday afternoon, after only six days in the ICU. They had been together for last 48 years.

Lee promised Suzanne he would make a difference and not waste his time without her.  He also dedicated his life to furthering the gospel of Jesus Christ.  Over the next three years, Lee repurposed his life though the help of Jesus, Seacoast Church and new friends.

The Last 48 is a story of life centered around Jesus and the hope and joy only He can provide. Looking back over their life together, Lee realized they had been “banking” their faith in Jesus and “banking” their love for each other. This gave him the ability to survive their worst nightmare, and guided Lee to thrive in a new life.
